U19 Cricket World Cup: 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes 175 as India beat England in final

India's 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi set a new record for the highest score made in an Under-19 Cricket World Cup final as he struck a stunning 175 from 80 balls in his side's 100-run win over England.

Suryavanshi, who turns 15 in March, struck 30 boundaries with an even split between fours and sixes, posting a remarkable strike rate of 218.75, and left India with one hand on the trophy as they posted 411-9 when batting first in Harare.

England set about their lofty target admirably, Caleb Falconer (115 off 67) cracking a fine hundred of his own, but a costly spell in which they lost four wickets for three runs - slipping from 174-3 to 177-7 - ultimately proved too much to recover from.

Falconer was the last man to fall as England were bowled out for 311 in the 41st over, with India claiming their sixth U19 world title.

After India won the toss and elected to bat first, opener Suryavanshi motored to his century off just 55 balls before continuing an astonishing onslaught against a shellshocked England bowling attack before bowing out with the score 251-3 after just 25 overs.

Captain Ayush Mhatre (53) was the only other India batter to pass fifty, but several useful cameos in the middle order helped them post a hugely-intimidating total.

Several England players offered their congratulations to Suryavanshi upon his dismissal, before the batter received a standing ovation from the crowd and his team-mates.

England, needing a record chase, managed just two runs after the first three overs of a sedate start. Opener Ben Dawkins (66 off 56) battled his way to a 49-ball half-century, before his dismissal triggered a mini collapse of four wickets in the space of 15 balls - the second of which was a calamitous Ralphie Albert run-out - that left England still with 235 to get and only three wickets remaining.

The imperious Falconer provided some much-needed poise at the crease, rallying the England clause with a sublime 63-ball century, but a superb Kilhan Patel catch would simultaneously bring his side's innings to a close and hand India their sixth U19 World Cup title.

Suryavanshi fell 17 runs short of the record score in U19 World Cup history, which was set earlier at the 2026 tournament when Sri Lanka's Viran Chamuditha made 192 against Japan.

Suryavanshi became just the sixth man to score a century in an U19 World Cup final, comfortably clearing the previous highest score of 111 set by fellow Unmukt Chand against Australia in 2012.

The knock was also the latest in a series of remarkable innings over the last year that have established Suryavanshi as perhaps the most exciting prospect in the men's game.

Suryavanshi made his IPL debut in April last year and went on to become the youngest player to score a century in the tournament - his 35-ball ton for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans the second-fastest ever in the IPL.

Friday's hundred was also not his first jaw-dropping knock against England, with Suryavanshi having struck 143 in Worcester during India U19's tour last summer.
