Papers: Slot turns down Fulham job

The top stories and transfer rumours from Saturday's newspapers...

Riquelme: Klopp will be Real Madrid first choice if I'm elected

Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has released a statement confirming that Jurgen Klopp will be his choice for the manager's job at the Bernabeu if he is elected on Sunday.

Riquelme will go up against Florentino Perez in Sunday's presidential elections at Real Madrid - having already claimed he will try and sign Erling Haaland if he is elected.

Man City are considering legal action over Haaland's player image rights after that declaration.

A statement from Riquelme's office read: "We know that Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to the dugout in the short term, and that he has turned down numerous offers.

"That is precisely why we believe the challenge of Real Madrid is different. Because there are great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid. There is only one institution capable of uniting tradition and future, values and ambition, passion and excellence.

"For that reason, if the members grant me their trust this Sunday, on Monday June 8, Raul Gonzalez Blanco [Real Madrid's sporting director] will contact Jurgen Klopp to convey to him personally our sporting project and our wish for him to be the one to lead, from the bench, our new era at Real Madrid."

Meanwhile, Perez has already revealed that Jose Mourinho will be the new Real Madrid head coach should he be elected on Sunday.

Benfica have already announced that Mourinho will leave his post as head coach of the Lisbon club should Perez win the election.

Ngumoha not for sale amid Bayern interest

Latest from Your Site News' Adrian Kajumba:

Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha is not for sale.

According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich have been exploring a summer move for teenage winger Ngumoha. Strengthening their attack this summer is one of the priorities for the Bundesliga champions.

One target for Bayern was Anthony Gordon, who instead joined Barcelona from Newcastle last week.

Sky Germany have reported that another target has been Ngumoha with, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany endorsing the idea of a move for the 17-year-old.

Liverpool, who have had no direct interest in the youngster, are aiming to strengthen their attacking options this summer rather than weaken them.

Ngumoha is also committed to Liverpool having signed a long-term, first professional contract in September 2025.

Ngumoha enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/26 season, establishing himself in Liverpool's first-team setup and making 29 appearances.

And his potential has been further underlined by his invitation to join Englands squad for their pre-World Cup training camp and also his PFA Young Player of the Year award nomination.

Is O'Neill staying on the right choice?

Former Celtic midfielder Stylian Petrov to Your Site News:

"I'm actually surprised - I thought they would offer Martin O'Neill a different role, a more relaxed one. But with his management skills and record for major honours, he has justified his appointment. I hope and wish him all the best for the next season. Martin O'Neill is Martin O'Neill.

"He'll feel about 102 by the time that year flies past! But with a one-year deal, they just want to stabilise the club. The last couple of months, he has shown why he's been such a great character. But here's a question: if they win again next year, what's going to happen?

"I've followed Robbie Keane's managerial career and he's done really well. But when you compare him with O'Neill, you have that maturity with O'Neill, who agreed to continue with this team.

"There was no doubt about it: he was always going to be the first choice if he agreed to it and showed the same energy and determination to work for this great club,

"Complicity, motivation, man management, this is everything that he's done in his career. He's a great motivator, he demands very high performances from every single player. He keeps everything simple. He trusts his staff. When you have that, you have a manager with a pedigree where only one thing can be achieved: the best.

"If O'Neill has agreed to become Celtic manager, he knows the challenges. He knows he needs to add quality, strong characters and big players who can win games.

"I hope Celtic have learned their lessons, because Rangers will be stronger next season, Hearts will try to push again. Celtic need to have a strong team in Europe and domestically. Last season, they got away with it. Next season will be a big challenge."

Aberdeen secure Happe signing

Aberdeen have signed defender Dan Happe on a two-year deal, with the option for a third.

The 27-year-old will officially join the Dons when his current contract  with EFL League One side Leyton Orient officially concludes.

O'Neill agrees terms on Celtic extension

Martin ONeill has agreed terms on a one-year deal to become the permanent manager of Celtic

The 74-year-old indicated to principal shareholder Dermot Desmond that he wanted to take the job, during talks on Thursday.
